One Year Old... and Wiser?

I feel like when I turned 18, people expected me to grow up and be an adult. That still hasn't happened yet, but I'm getting closer. I feel like this last year I've grown up more than I have in the last two or three years combined. Here are some of the things I've learned in the last year:
  • I'm capable of cooking meals that taste ok, are nutritious, and don't cause food poisoning.
  • Closed-toed shoes are critical for job interviews.
  • A classic black dress is a must for any woman's closet. I've worn mine to a wedding, two funerals, church, and countless other functions since I purchased it last December.
  • Just because an a computer virus scanner is expensive, doesn't mean that it's the best. Sometimes the best ones are free.
  • Networking is absolutely necessary to success.
  • Karma does exist.
  • I can have my opinions and viewpoints and other people can have ones on the opposite end of the spectrum. We can peacefully coexist and be extremely good friends.
  • Plan to be flexible.
  • Always pack a razor, toothpaste, and an extra sleeping pill.
  • Some friends will come and go. The ones that can pick up right where you left off months ago are the real keepers.
  • First impressions are important. They're also often entirely wrong.
  • Do not get between a bison and its mate.
  • If you ever want to know the reality of something, ask a five-year-old.
  • Good manners are worth more than diamonds, and the price keeps climbing since they are getting to be such a rare commodity.
  • Grades are only part of the equation. There's more to education than that.
  • Balancing all aspects of life is tough, but important. You can't do school 24/7. Life isn't meant to work that way, and you will have to check into a mental institution if that's what you decide to do.
Here's to another year of family, friends, and USU!
